In Tameside we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for our Looked after Children. In order to support this goal there has been significant investment into the service to create additional capacity at all levels.

We are looking to recruit to a number of posts within the brand new Special Guardianship/Discharge Team which will progress discharges of orders through to supporting the SGO placement and plan. This team will also be the lead on discharge of care orders at home.

We are looking to recruit 2 Family Intervention Workers to be a part of this new team.

You will be responsible for working alongside the allocated social worker in formulating support plans for Looked after Children with a plan of permanence that requires a discharge of a care order through the court.

You will be the support contact for the carers and parents of children to offer support, advice and guidance and you will need to work flexibly and creatively in order to achieve this. As the team is new, you will be a part of the development of the team helping us shape this with you knowledge and expertise.

You will need to be committed to providing the best possible outcomes for Looked after Children ensure that we are meeting our priorities are identified in the corporate parenting strategy and action plan and reducing the numbers of our Looked after Children.

This is a brand new team within the structure and is an exciting opportunity to be a part of developing. The team will sit as part of the fostering service as there is an obvious transition path for carers becoming Special Guardians, but we encourage collaborative working across all of the service. The successful candidate will be part of a wider service that is dedicated to achieving permanence, who are aspirational for our children and are committed to reducing the number of children in our care.
