The Complex Needs (children social care) team provide social work services to children and young people with disabilities and their families. We are an established multi agency and collocated team working closely with health and education providing short breaks, child in need family support, child protection and care proceedings.

The team works with a wide range of children and young people with disabilities across the borough up to the age of 18. The service provides support to children with challenging behaviours, autism, moderate to severe learning disabilities, epilepsy, and complex health and physical disabilities. The Complex Needs team supports children with to remain at home whenever possible and for as long as possible.

The successful applicant will work directly with families to create solutions to their difficulties. This may include help around budgeting, parenting skills, housing or providing short breaks for children with disabilities (day time activities).

About you
You will have an understanding of the challenges facing children and young people with disabilities and their families and will work with families and social workers to develop solutions and provide support. You will be observant, able to empathise with people who are neuro-untypical and their families.

About the Role
As a family support worker you will form relationships with children with disabilities and their families and support them to overcome barriers to participation. This may be through direct support to young people and their families which may be at a time of crisis, providing advice and guidance on how to access support, supporting social workers deliver on outcomes for the child and family.

You will be required to undertake observations and provide social workers and other professional’s accurate accounts of the outcomes from interventions. You may be required to undertake Early help assessments and complete referrals to other organisations. You will work closely with our co-located multi agency partners.

You may be required to undertake activities with children with disabilities to provide a short break to parents or to help the young person develop an interest or activity.

Additional Information
Flexibility will be required to work outside core hours and to work at times suitable for the daily life of the family’s we work with.
