Senior AMHP (Daytime AMHP Service) based in the Blackburn with Darwen Community Mental Health Team
Permanent, 37 hours per week
Grade I (SCP 34 £36,876 to 38 £40,760)

We’re looking for an experienced Approved Mental Health Professional Worker to take on the role of Senior AMHP within the Blackburn and Darwen daytime AMHP Service, based within the local integrated Community Mental Health Team.

This is an exciting time for AMHP work in Blackburn with Darwen. We’ve got an established body of AMHPs who work closely together to meet our statutory duties under the Mental Health Act. It’s a great team, with really strong values and a firm belief in the importance of the AMHP role, but we think we can do better in how we organise our AMHP work. As part of this, we’re looking for a new Senior AMHP to play a key role in leading and coordinating our AMHP service.

The Senior AMHP works alongside the CMHT management team, (which includes three experienced AMHPs) to coordinate the daytime service. We’re looking for a committed and energetic professional with excellent communication and organisational skills. You would need to be able to work effectively in a busy service with complex duties. You would need to provide strong leadership to the AMHP service through a period of ongoing change, supporting and challenging them to maintain high standards of AMHP practice. It’s a leadership role that involves the full range of AMHP duties, and also includes:
- Providing supervision for qualified AMHPs
- Coordinating and allocating planned work such as CTOs and assessments for Guardianship
- Co-ordinating the AMHP rotas for the service
- Advising on cases, particularly where there are complex issues around legal frameworks
- Overseeing the processes for AMHP approval
- Co-ordinating CPD and training for AMHPs, and facilitating a local AMHP forum
- Acting as Practice Assessor to trainee AMHPs
- Collaborating with managers on service development
- Working with colleagues within Mental Health services and partner organisations such as the police and ambulance Trust to promote collaborative working and best practice in relation to the Mental Health Act
- Carrying a small caseload of complex cases

As Senior AMHP, you would line manage two dedicated AMHP practitioners as well as co-ordinating a rota covered by a wider body of local AMHPs. The daytime AMHP service is responsible for assessments requested in daytime hours, and operates from 9am to 8pm, Monday to Friday. As Senior AMHP, you would be expected to work flexibly, and cover shifts across this pattern.

As well as a great team, we can offer the following benefits:
- Experienced team with strong leadership
- Focus on staff well-being
- Competitive salary
- On-site parking
- Excellent CPD
- Access to Local Government Pension Scheme
- Discounted gym membership
- One of the top performing councils in the country
