POLICY, PERFORMANCE & COMMUNICATIONS
2 GRADUATE TRAINEE OPPORTUNITIES
Tameside Council is a great place to work and develop, where people can make the most of their talents and gain diverse experience. As an organisation we are progressing on arguably the most radical programme of change in the Council’s history and the Policy, Performance & Communications team is a key player in this programme’s success.
Tameside Council and Tameside and Glossop Clinical Commissioning Group are one of the first in
the country to combine into one strategic commissioning function with a single pooled budget. This along with GM Devolution and the GM Social Health and Care Partnership brings exciting opportunities to work towards further integrated approaches to deliver better outcomes for all.
The Service is therefore looking to appoint two talented trainees to join its team.

POLICY, PERFORMANCE & COMMUNICATIONS
2 X GRADUATE TRAINEE OFFICERS
12 month trainee contract
36 hours per week
Salary Grade E - £19,446 to £21,693 per annum
We are looking for two highly motivated individuals to join us for a 12 month graduate trainee post helping to drive forward a range of policy, performance and communications work.
The public sector, and in particular local government, has been hit hard by cuts to public spending. Tameside as a local authority faces big challenges, having experienced funding cuts of over 50% over the last five years, and we continue to face significant reductions in funding.
Despite this Tameside is still very much open for business and looking to the future with energy and ambition, and we are constantly looking for new ways to work with local people to build better services for our communities. We are at the heart of reform across the sector and are positioning ourselves to make the most of future economic growth across the Greater Manchester conurbation.
We are currently putting together ambitious plans to grow and develop Tameside and are looking for somebody to join our Policy, Performance & Communications team to help drive this work forward.
You will be at the cutting edge of developments across the sector and will gain a wide range of skills and experiences. We would particularly welcome applications from those who are interested in putting forward ideas, constructing supporting arguments, actively evaluating evidence and communicating the Council’s plans to local residents and the wider community.
You will be expected to work independently as part of a busy team, working closely with Senior Managers, Elected Councillors and Partners such as the Police and Health Service. You will be supported and offered a structured programme of development aimed at supporting you in your future career.
Skills and Experience required:
• Ability to adapt and pick up new skills quickly and with minimal supervision
• Excellent writing and critical evaluation skills
• The ability to develop and present creative approaches to problems
• Knowledge of public policy and issues facing local government
• Ability to work independently and in a fast paced environment
• A strong academic background
• Good attention to detail
• Ability to communicate ideas using a number of different tools
We are looking for the successful candidates to start working with us as soon as possible. If you are interested in this opportunity, and would like any further information, please contact James Smith via e-mail
