Tameside is looking for an innovative and enthusiastic Occupational Therapist who would thrive on the opportunity to drive improvements and make most of their potential as part of an integrated health and social team. The main aim of our Housing Occupational Therapist post is to contribute to the development of and improve the service to promote the needs of people with disabilities within the local housing stock.
The role will involve joint working and responsibility, along with an Allocations Officer from the councils Housing Advice service, to operate the Tameside Housing Register.The service aims to assist disabled people who are seeking rehousing, by identifying and matching them with rented properties that meet their disability needs. You will also be on hand to offer advice to Registered Social Landlords on the design of new build properties to meet individual needs.
The post will also deal with requests from Registered Social Landlords to offer assessments to people who may be living in areas that are due to be refurbished, thus potentially cutting down waiting.
The duties will involve the management of a complex caseload providing assessment and advice around a wide range of assistive equipment, housing adaptations and rehousing options. You will have experiences in working with people with disabilities and their families in the community.
To enable you to do this to the best of your ability we will give you a comprehensive induction, regular supervision from your Line Manager, support from our Assistant Team Managers and access to support and advice from our Consultant Occupational Therapist. You will also have the benefit of being part a friendly, supportive multidisciplinary team which includes core Occupational Therapists, Occupational Therapy assistants, social workers, assessors, manual handling practitioners, health and well-being advisors and district nurses. In addition to health and social care staff we also work closely with third sector agencies such as social prescribers and dementia support workers.
The ideal candidate will have a degree in occupational therapies and will be HCPC registered as an occupational therapist. You will need confidence, enthusiasm, a passion for learning and development, and the ability to build good working relationships with carers, families, colleagues and Multi Agency Teams.
Furthermore, the ideal candidate will have excellent administrative and computer skills, excellent English skills along with good reading, writing and numeracy skills - as this makes up a large part of the role. You will need to have good up to date knowledge of relevant legislation, sound assessment, and problem solving skills.
This post carries an authorised casual car user allowance.
This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English in the person specification.
This role is subject to the relevant Safeguarding checks which will include an Enhanced DBS check and the right to work in the UK checks.
