Short Breaks/Respite Foster Carer
Closing date 4th May 2020 at 16:30pm

Would you like to make a real difference to lives of disabled children and their families in Trafford? Our Home from Home scheme needs people like you to spend time with disabled children, have fun and involve them in everyday activities in your home or in the community. The children are carefully matched with individuals or families who can meet their needs. The child then visits the same family or individual on a regular basis.

Role?
We recruit two types of Carers, Volunteer Foster Carers and self-employed Multi-link Contracted Foster Carers.

Who are the children?
Carers support children aged 0 to 18 years of age. The children have autism, learning or physical disabilities and need opportunities to have fun, meet new people, try new activities and gain independence.

At the same time, their parents have a break from caring, or time to spend with their other children.

Who can provide short break care?
We need all kinds of people. You may be single, have a partner, be young or older, working, retired or unemployed. We welcome carers from all cultural backgrounds and abilities. We require carers with energy and commitment to support children with disabilities in your home and out in the community.

Volunteer Foster Carers
Volunteer Home from Home carers supports children and young people in their spare time. Children and their families usually need support at weekends, in the evenings and during school holidays.

You can offer as much support as you are able to, but we would ask that you are available at least once/twice a month.

Will I be paid for providing care? Yes.
You will be paid an allowance to cover expenses. £60 overnight and £30 day time care, up to 8 hours.

Multi-link Carers
Trafford Council is currently recruiting for self-employed multi-link contract Foster Carers. There are two positions available, one full-time position and one part-time.

Multi-link Foster carers are linked to a number of children. Each child is allocated a number of short-break sessions per year where they receive individual one-to one support either day-time or over-night care. A full care-time carer will deliver 222 sessions per year which approximately equates to 5 days per week – Carers are expected to work a minimum of one/two weekends per month. Part-time carers sessions will be calculated on a pro-rata basis.

All Foster Carers will adhere to Fostering Regulations and will receive a yearly rolling contract highlighting terms and conditions of employment.

Will I be paid for providing care? Yes.
Tier One - £17569 plus care payments (£45.27 per session) up to 222 sessions per year.
Tier Two – Enhanced care payment for complex health and care needs

Will I receive support and training? Yes.
Full training will be given. You will receive ongoing support from the child's parents and from the Children with Disabilities Team. Full fostering assessment will be undertaken and agreement at Fostering Panel will be required prior to your approval as a Foster Carer.

Will I have to undergo a background check? Yes.
