Level 3 Teaching Assistant - Thomas Ashton School
Teaching Assistant

32.5 hours per week.

Thomas Ashton School is a co-educational special school for children from KS1 to KS3 who have a range of identified social, emotional and mental health needs and who may also have other associated needs such as attachment, ASD and learning.

At Thomas Ashton School all children have an Education, Health & Care plan that details their special educational needs and a series of anticipated outcomes.  Through provision maps and IEPs teachers describe how those outcomes can be met via personalised interventions.  Level 3 teaching assistants support this process by liaising closely with the class teacher and overseeing the delivery of the intervention programme.

We are looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated person to work with children in the classroom, to help them make the progress they are capable of and achieve the success they deserve. The successful candidate also needs to be comfortable working with all children across the school in the event that roles change in the future. These children will present at times as being highly vulnerable, needy and very challenging, and in some cases, physically challenging. You must be prepared to handle children as a last resort, and you will receive training for this.

We therefore need a person who is: flexible; tolerant and patient; who can show creativity and initiative; who can demonstrate a genuine care for, and an understanding of, our children and their specific needs; who has skills and/or experiences that support the school’s priorities of improving the children’s core skills of literacy and numeracy and their personal and social development and emotional wellbeing.

Your main responsibility will be supporting the Teacher or Teaching Partner with the teaching and learning, delivering interventions and working with a Level 1 Teaching Assistant to ensure the pupils are happy and safe.

You will:

Join a friendly, hardworking and professional staff

-  Become part of a caring and welcoming school
Be supported by Leadership Team committed to school improvement

Thomas Ashton School operates a cover supervision policy which would entail covering for the class teacher in certain circumstances.

In the pursuit of moving the school from ‘good’ to ‘outstanding’, every person working with our children share in the responsibilities of helping to drive up standards, both in terms of staff professionalism as well as pupil achievement and attainment.

Application forms must be returned to the school by the end of school on Monday 25th September 2017. Please do not include a CV, but make sure all sections of the application form are completed along with the names and contact details of people we can contact for references.

All applicants are strongly encouraged to contact us and request a tour of the school.

Further information about the school can be found by visiting our website:  www.thomasashton.tameside.sch.uk

Interviewees will be observed leading the learning with a small group of pupils as well as talking to an interview panel.

This post is subject to Enhanced Disclosure Procedures and a Children’s Barred List check.

The post is identified as ‘in scope’ for the purposes of the Childcare Disqualification Declaration Regulations (2009) and a Childcare Disqualification form will need to be completed.

The governors and staff of Thomas Ashton School are committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare and wellbeing of children.
