LEVEL 1 TEACHING ASSISTANT

Salary: Grade B – SCP 10 £8,170 – SCP 12 £8,437

(Excluding Living Wage Foundation)

This job attracts the Living Wage Foundation that the Council has adopted. The revised salary including the Living Wage supplement is as follows
£8,604 - £8,604

1. Temporary fixed term contract for 1 year – to cover additional support for pupils as our numbers on role are increasing.
22.5 Hours Per Week- Term Time Only.

The school caters for students aged 11 to 16 who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple disabilities and some have additional complex behaviours. The successful applicants will be part of a school team working with teaching staff and Level 2 and 3 Teaching Assistants in providing guidance, support and education for pupils. This may include, support in lessons, personal care, therapy and communication programmes within both small group and individual situations.

We are seeking to employ positive, enthusiastic people whose personal attributes will contribute to a team of staff fully committed to ‘going the extra mile’ for our pupils’ needs. It is essential that the successful applicants will have experience- in either a paid, voluntary or in a personal capacity- to demonstrate:

1) Performing a caring/supportive role.
2) The physical ability to continue to support secondary aged pupils through periods of Challenging Behaviour strictly following the principles and procedures of the school’s training programme (which prioritises avoidance of this need).
3) Successful experience of team work.

This post is a designated customer facing role under the fluency duty and requires a specified level of spoken English in the person specification.
